Our Perennial Department is stocked full with countless varieties of flowering and shade loving perennials, including a fantastic selection of native, rock garden, ornamental grass, and specialty groundcover plants. Our wide assortment of high quality perennials will inspire you to create the garden of your dreams! We strive to maintain the highest standards in plant quality, with many of the plants we sell grown right here in New Hampshire, and many grown right here at Churchill’s! We take great pride in the perennials we sell, and we can help you find what you require.

If you have a trouble spot in the garden or are working with a theme, don’t hesitate to ask us for advice! We will do our best to find you the plants that will work. Keep in mind that our employees are also gardeners, and we will give you honest answers on the plants we sell and how they have worked for us at home!

If you are looking for a particular variety, please ask! We will do our best to provide it for you.

Perennial of the Year 2014
The Perennial Plant Association has chosen a Churchill’s favorite, Panicum virgatum “Northwind” as the 2014 Perennial of the Year. We have been selling this variety for years, and we are happy to finally see it recognized! This variety of native grass likes to be in full sun to light shade, is hardy to Zones 4-10, and will enhance any sunny border with its blue green foliage and upright, erect shape. This switch grass gets 5 feet tall and has hazy, finely textured panicles of flowers that go from purple to yellow to beige starting in midsummer. This grass is drought tolerant once established, but will also tolerate having wet feet very well! If you are interested in installing a rain garden, this is one for the list!

Past Perennials of the Year
2013 Polygonatum odoratum “Variegatum”
2012 Brunnera “Jack Frost”
2011 Amsonia hubrichtii
2010 Baptisia australis
2009 Hakonechloa macra “Aureola”
2008 Geranium “Rozanne”

Churchill's Grown Perennials
This year we are focused on growing fantastic groundcovers! Look for our spreading hostas, sedums, perennial geraniums, thyme, and other specialty groundcovers! As the interest in lawn replacements and erosion and weed control expands, we have decided to grow some choice varieties of groundcover so they become more widely available to our customers. Many will be sold in a small pot size, but we will have some choices in one gallon sizes as well. We only stock what is hardiest for the majority of our customers (Zone 5), but please don’t hesitate to ask if you are looking for something special.

As always, please feel free to contact us with your questions.
